Acai

Avocado


The avocado is a fruit of great nutritional value and high caloric content, highlighting especially its high contribution in healthy fats, something unusual for a fruit.

- Carbohydrates.
Its carbohydrate content is very low, barely 1 g/100 g, and the content decreases rapidly during ripening and storage, so it can be eaten (in moderation) by diabetics.

- Lipids or fats. It is a fruit with a high fat content, which accounts for almost a fifth of its weight, being its main component after its water content (about 70%). This is especially striking as it is a fruit, which rather resembles in this sense to a nut and olives. This fat is particularly rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (70%), such as oleic acid, which is characteristic of olive oil. This type of fat normalizes the elevated levels of cholesterol in plasma, reducing the level of LDL (bad) cholesterol and raising the level of HDL (good) cholesterol.

- Proteins. Its protein content, around 2%, is not very significant. However, it has an adequate proportion of amino acids.
Fiber. Its fiber content is not very high, about 3 grams per 100 grams of food, but it is higher than that of other fruits (orange), giving it a certain laxative effect and helping to regulate intestinal functions and control blood glucose levels.

- Vitamins. Avocado is rich in antioxidant vitamins, such as A, C and E, being vitamin C the main one. These vitamins intervene in the body's defense mechanisms, preventing tissue and skin aging, degenerative and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, avocado also provides vitamins of the B group, which collaborate in the proper functioning of the nervous system, such as B6 and folic acid, so its consumption is highly recommended during pregnancy.

- Minerals.
Regarding its mineral content, it is important to highlight the presence of potassium, magnesium and phosphorus and smaller amounts of calcium, iron and copper, which are involved in important physiological processes.
